As a caregiver, you are allowed to take breaks! Respite is the care of your loved one by another person, letting you take a break. Respite can be provided by a friend, neighbor, a day center, or a home care agency.
The Arizona Caregiver Coalition (ACC) administers the Lifespan Respite grant in partnership with the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). Funding comes from the Administration for Community Living (ACL). The respite program is at no cost to family caregivers who do not receive respite from other federal or state programs.

Your family member has a safe place to go while you (the caregiver) enjoy a break from caregiving. We pay the day center for up to 96 hours.
You arrange for respite, usually in your own home. You can hire an agency, or you can ask a trusted friend or neighbor to come and stay with your family member. You pay them, then you send us the receipt and timesheet and we reimburse you.
Caring for a loved one is a significant responsibility, and unexpected situations can arise that require immediate attention. Emergency Respite is designed for elevated circumstances when you can't provide care due to an urgent situation like an illness, urgent errand, or unexpected event. With a higher funding limit, Emergency Respite offers increased support and is paid out differently to ensure you have the assistance you need when you need it most. Let the Arizona Caregiver Coalition help you plan ahead, so your loved one is safe even when you can’t be there.

Emergency Respite is a service designed to provide immediate, short-term care for your loved one when unexpected situations arise, such as illness, urgent errands, or emergencies. It offers extra support to ensure your loved one is safe and cared for when you cannot be present.
Eligible caregivers can receive up to $2,400 in the form of a voucher. This funding helps cover the costs of temporary care services during emergencies.
The voucher can be used for various short-term care needs, including in-home care, adult day care services, or temporary placement in a care facility, depending on what best suits your loved one’s needs during your absence.
Eligibility is determined based on specific criteria, including the nature of the emergency, the care recipient’s needs, and the caregiver’s situation. To find out if you qualify, contact the Arizona Caregiver Coalition for an assessment.
Emergency Respite is intended for urgent, unexpected situations requiring immediate attention, whereas regular respite care is planned in advance.
