Brandon Baxter, Secretary
Brandon Baxter was hired in January of 2014 as the Family Caregiver Coordinator for the Area Agency on Aging-NACOG, representing the disabled and aging populations in Region III.
Brandon came to the Area Agency on Aging-NACOG from the private In-home care industry where he spent 4 years as a Certified Caregiver, Direct Care Worker Trainer, First Aid and CPR Instructor for Healthcare Professionals, Area Supervisor and Human Resources Manager in charge of screening, hiring, training and monitoring In-home caregivers throughout Apache, Coconino, Gila, Navajo and Yavapai Counties.
Brandon first began his career in 1996 in Operations and Sales Management. After spending 14 years in the private sector Brandon found the aging profession in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. Brandon describes his switch from the Private Sector to the Social Services sector as the difference between “Working hard every day to meet peoples wants, or working hard every day to meet peoples needs… I find infinitely more satisfaction meeting unmet needs!”
Brandon was promoted by AAA-NACOG to the position of Family Supports Program Manager in February of 2015. Brandon now oversees the Family Caregiver Program including the design and implementation of Caregiver Workshops, the facilitation of Caregiver Support Groups, the creation and operation of the Kinship Care Program (Grandparents Raising Grandchildren), the continuation of the highly successful evidenced based Health and Wellness Programs (Boston University—Matter of Balance; Stanford University—Chronic Disease Self Management, Chronic Pain Self Management, Diabetes Self Management) as well as the development and implementation of new revenue generating programs to help further the reach and impact of the Area Agency on Aging-NACOG.
Brandon’s background in business is a benefit to finding new solutions to care issues, as agency’s around the nation are faced with increasing needs and decreasing funding streams. Over the past 6 years Brandon has served on the Board of Directors for the Northern Arizona Gerontology Association including serving as the Conference Chair and Board President in 2012. Currently Brandon also sits on the Board of Directors for the Elder Safety Coalition in Flagstaff as well as the Arizona Strong Families Coalition in Winslow, AZ.
With an extensive Public Speaking background, Brandon is also instrumental in the Outreach and Community Education efforts of the Area Agency on Aging-NACOG. Brandon travels around the region and the state speaking about current/relevant aging issues, training and educational opportunities, local/state/federal advocacy efforts as well as increasing overall awareness of aging and disability related programs and services.
Brandon is also the Family Caregiver to his Mother, whom he moved from California to his home in Arizona in May of 2011. Brandon states that this opportunity to be more involved in his mothers day to day life has “given me an appreciation for her that I never had the perspective to achieve as a youth. I look at this as an opportunity to really learn about my mother and love her for all the selflessness she showed and shared in her life, and just maybe have this opportunity to give a bit back.”
Brandon is married to his College Speech and Debate Partner and together they share the joy of raising their three daughters.
