Caregiver Respite

Family caregivers deserve to take a break. Call us about respite.

What is Respite?

As a caregiver, you are allowed to take breaks! Respite is the care of your loved one by another person, letting you take a break. Respite can be provided by a friend, neighbor, a day center, or a home care agency.

Our Programs:

The Arizona Caregiver Coalition (ACC) administers the Lifespan Respite grant in partnership with the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). Funding comes from the Administration for Community Living (ACL). The respite program is at no cost to family caregivers who do not receive respite from other federal or state programs.

Required documents for all programs:
  • A copy of your ID such as a Driver’s License
  • A copy of your family member’s ID such as a Driver’s License
    • For family members under the age of 18, a birth certificate, guardianship paperwork, or student ID is acceptable.
  • A completed Medical Needs Form to be completed by a provider. Please find a copy of the form here
  • If you are interested in the $1,200 Respite Voucher option – a completed W-9 form which can be found here
Please note, your application will not be processed until we have received all corresponding documents.
Documentos requeridos para todos nuestros programas:

Tenga en cuenta que su solicitud no se procesará hasta que hayamos recibido todos los documentos correspondientes.

1. Adult Day Health Centers: Your family member has a safe place to go while you (the caregiver) enjoy a break from caregiving. We pay the day center for up to 96 hours.

2. Respite Voucher: You arrange for respite, usually in your own home. You can hire an agency, or you can ask a trusted friend or neighbor to come and stay with your family member. You pay them, then you send us the receipt and timesheet and we reimburse you.

3. Arizona Veteran Caregiver Support Program:

In partnership with Duet, Partners in Health & Aging, the Arizona Caregiver Coalition is offering the Arizona Veteran Caregiver Support Program. This program offers Respite Vouchers for Veteran family caregivers, or caregivers caring for a Veteran, who are currently participating in caregiver educational workshops/classes or caregiver support groups. The maximum reimbursement amount for this program is $1,200.00 with a completed W9 from the family caregiver applying. Proof of attendance/enrollment in workshops or support groups must be provided with the application. Proof of enrollment includes:

    • Copy of class enrollment verification such as an email notifying of enrollment (dates/times of the classes must be included on the email)
