Join Maribeth Gallagher, director of Hospice of the Valley’s dementia program, for a deeper
understanding of how dementia changes the brain and influences a person’s ability to think, function
and behave. Learn ways to enhance quality of life, provide compassionate care and manage the stress
of being a caregiver. Once a family caregiver herself, Gallagher has a doctorate of nursing practice
degree and is a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
Hospice of the Valley’s Palliative Care for Dementia program helps people at all stages of the disease.
A dementia educator makes home visits to connect families with community resources. Caregivers
learn ways to bring loved ones comfort and joy—singing a familiar song or engaging in familiar
activities. Mindfulness meditation helps caregivers learn to relax and care for themselves. For more
