Role of Caregivers

Role of Caregivers
Respite care is a type of assistance that allows the family caregiver to take a break from care-giving. This type of care focuses on helping family caregivers recharge, ease their stress, and avoid caregiver burnout. Rather than spending time attending to daily duties, respite care provides assistance and support to the family caregiver. Keeping the caregiver healthy and supported results in higher quality time spent together. The longer a family member can provide appropriate care, the longer the loved one is able to stay comfo

“Caregiving has pushed me to do things outside of my comfort zone, and I’ve embraced that nurturing part of myself that I didn’t know I had.”

Mary lives with late stage Alzheimer’s so Patty spends about 9 hours daily to assist her with things like bathing, cooking, dressing, and going to the doctor’s office for appointments. Patty takes Mary to an Adult Day Center three days a week through the Arizona Caregiver Coalition so that she can enjoy respite. Mary loved it at the center and made friends. It became something that she truly looked forward to every week.
