Solterra Senior Living and Area Agency on Aging NACOG’s Family Caregiver Support Program is partnering to provide the White Mountain Caregiver Symposium on November 15th from 10am – 2pm at 5408 AZ Highway 260 in Lakeside. In the U.S., family caregivers are providing billions of dollars in unpaid care and are considered an at-risk demographic. A bit closer to home, in Snowflake, Arizona within the past 6 months, 2 family caregivers have died before the person they are caring for; this trend is representative of what is happening nationally in that 6 out of 10 caregivers are dying before their loved one.
The White Mountain Caregiver Symposium is an event which will bring focus on the family caregivers and what supportive services they may find within their own communities. We want to include mental health as more than 80% of family caregivers are depressed, anxious or chronically ill due to the overwhelming responsibilities of caregiving. Many of the caregivers we see are taking medications for depression or anxiety.
This even will feature the reading of the Navajo County Family Caregiver Proclamation to help raise awareness, provide education, reach out for resources and provide supportive services for family caregivers to ensure a wraparound of care for families. Area Agency on Aging NAACOG is responding to the troubling trends in our communities.
Registration is required for this event and can be completed by calling toll-free 1-877-521-3500.
